lfd and story

A Looking for Dungeon interface is coming soon.

I’m excited about this. For the pug pet? No. For the achievements? (gawds help me, I used a capital ‘a’ when typing that the first time) NO. For the-

No, no, no. Simply enough, so I can start calling them dungeons instead of instances. The computer technical term always bothered me somehow. It’s like when we say something ‘proc’s’. What does that mean, anyway?

Well, the proceedure runs-

EXACTLY. It’s not a definition that explains the ingame dynamics, but rather the technical aspect of the code.

Dungeons they are and dungeons they will be.

Quick story time, because I promised.

Because of the promise of great reward, my wife and I started to take achievements seriously. And by seriously, I mean we did them till we were blue in the face. And by achievements, I mean just the ones for the drake because after that it didn’t matter again.

This Hallow’s End, she wanted the Squashling more than anything else in the world because, aside from G.N.E.R.D. Rage, it was the last achievement she needed to get done the holiday.

For those of you who might not have heard of this ‘WoW’ thing, this holiday achievement is won by getting awards from items that are rewarded to you (at random) for killing the Headless Horseman or by (randomly) getting a treat bag instead of a trick and (randomly) getting the item in the treat bag. You could also (not so randomly) put out fires to get a (random) gift from the Matron. What I’m trying to say here is: There’s a lot of random.

The only reason she wasn’t already done this event 365 days ago was because the item never showed up for her main character despite her best efforts. She looted the treat bags until they stopped giving them out. 2 of her other characters got the Squashling, 1 of them in duplicate – which is then discarded. (Note to Blizzard: Maybe account bound items would be suitable for holiday events like this one? Look into that.)

Last Friday, after killing the Horseman 5 times a day for all 6 days, we got the drop. A sinister squashling. ALL the group needed it for the achievement. We ALL rolled ‘need’ for it as per how we agreed to loot prior to combat. I won the role.

In Dalaran after, I gave it to her to get the achievement.

Even though there was a promise of great reward and even though I know how difficult it is to get (sometimes), I passed it on.

AND I’D DO IT AGAIN, I TELL YOU! BWA-HA-HA-Ha-heh… *cough*… I mean. Yes. When it came down to it, I knew that I’d be less upset about not getting the achievement than she would. And the whole I love her to death (when I will rise again as the zombie king) thing too.

I may be crazy at times, mad at times, annoying at others and sometimes just stupid, but I wouldn’t be where I was in life or in WoW (she leveled me from 53) without her. And I would do it again. There are some people that the rewards don’t mean anything anymore without them. So, yes.

End of story. Epilogue: I got mine two days ago. So, not that big of a deal after all.

Tune in next time when I go back to normal and talk about gnomes. And killing. And killing gnomes. You know, the things I’m better at talking about.

I play a Fire Mage in World of Warcraft. There doesn’t seem to be many of us around, or at least the ones that do don't write aboot it. It’s all Frost pvp or Arcane this or that which just blows my mind. Seriously. My spec isn't somethng I’d recommend to anyone else in the world. It’s not what you’d call good or efficient. I’m a casual gamer. I stick to the 15$/month form of the cheapest entertainment I can get. Also, I like gin.
