lfd and story

A Looking for Dungeon interface is coming soon.

I’m excited about this. For the pug pet? No. For the achievements? (gawds help me, I used a capital ‘a’ when typing that the first time) NO. For the-

No, no, no. Simply enough, so I can start calling them dungeons instead of instances. The computer technical term always bothered me somehow. It’s like when we say something ‘proc’s’. What does that mean, anyway?

Well, the proceedure runs-

EXACTLY. It’s not a definition that explains the ingame dynamics, but rather the technical aspect of the code.

Dungeons they are and dungeons they will be.

Quick story time, because I promised.

Because of the promise of great reward, my wife and I started to take achievements seriously. And by seriously, I mean we did them till we were blue in the face. And by achievements, I mean just the ones for the drake because after that it didn’t matter again.

This Hallow’s End, she wanted the Squashling more than anything else in the world because, aside from G.N.E.R.D. Rage, it was the last achievement she needed to get done the holiday.

For those of you who might not have heard of this ‘WoW’ thing, this holiday achievement is won by getting awards from items that are rewarded to you (at random) for killing the Headless Horseman or by (randomly) getting a treat bag instead of a trick and (randomly) getting the item in the treat bag. You could also (not so randomly) put out fires to get a (random) gift from the Matron. What I’m trying to say here is: There’s a lot of random.

The only reason she wasn’t already done this event 365 days ago was because the item never showed up for her main character despite her best efforts. She looted the treat bags until they stopped giving them out. 2 of her other characters got the Squashling, 1 of them in duplicate – which is then discarded. (Note to Blizzard: Maybe account bound items would be suitable for holiday events like this one? Look into that.)

Last Friday, after killing the Horseman 5 times a day for all 6 days, we got the drop. A sinister squashling. ALL the group needed it for the achievement. We ALL rolled ‘need’ for it as per how we agreed to loot prior to combat. I won the role.

In Dalaran after, I gave it to her to get the achievement.

Even though there was a promise of great reward and even though I know how difficult it is to get (sometimes), I passed it on.

AND I’D DO IT AGAIN, I TELL YOU! BWA-HA-HA-Ha-heh… *cough*… I mean. Yes. When it came down to it, I knew that I’d be less upset about not getting the achievement than she would. And the whole I love her to death (when I will rise again as the zombie king) thing too.

I may be crazy at times, mad at times, annoying at others and sometimes just stupid, but I wouldn’t be where I was in life or in WoW (she leveled me from 53) without her. And I would do it again. There are some people that the rewards don’t mean anything anymore without them. So, yes.

End of story. Epilogue: I got mine two days ago. So, not that big of a deal after all.

Tune in next time when I go back to normal and talk about gnomes. And killing. And killing gnomes. You know, the things I’m better at talking about.

Race change / Hallow’s End

I don’t understand this Race Change thing. Do the racial abilities really matter?

NO.

So, what’s the deal?

I don’t know.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people tell me that the Undead racial abilities are shite but I also can’t tell you how many times I’ve used Will Of The Forsaken to save my butt. Is that useless? No. Would I trade it for an extra couple points in Enchanting? Heck no.

I guess now you have the option to remodel yourself more. Some people fear change, others will say it’s good. I know that I don’t really care since my whole backstore revolves around being undead. I’m more than happy where I am and I delight in the idea that many of you poor souls who accidently picked Night Elves have the chance to redeem yourself.

Moving on.

I finished Hallow’s End achievements (save the insane collecto-mask dealie). This was done by the grace of my wife and by the grace of the guild. In particular, Chibikeni. I’d like you thank you, Chibi, for lfging hh when you did those many times. We got a lot of useless rings to drop and, finally, we got the squashling. Without your help I never would have gotten that. I wasn’t able to make it on today, but for the rest of the week, I’ll make certain to provide assistence to you so you can do the same.

I love a tank that kicks ass, and, seriously, this tauren is one of them. Also, undead in a way, so I gotta respect that. Also, thanks to the guild for generally being awesome. I’ve had a very enjoyable first couple weeks.

I’ll get into the grace of my wife next post. It’s not a bad story, nor is it insulting or degrading. Be prepared for chivalry.
